    Historical notes

The two mature Moreton Bay Figs on the corner of Catherine Street and Mt Vernon Street. Although potentially remnants from the former grounds of the Elphinstone family estate (c.1870s), they appear as relatively small trees in 1943 and are probably planted circa late 1920’s. They appear to be located 1943 in the rear yards of former small cottage housing that occupied the site, now demolished. The site has since been converted to a small local open space area within Housing NSW land. One tree is located in the lawn area while the other is situated in asphalt hardstand adjacent to 4 Vernon Street.
